Barcelona

Last weekend, we (Gene, Tammy and I) went to Barcelona. This was Tammy's last weekend here in Europe. We arrived on Sat morning and headed to the La Sagrada Familia. This is a church designed by Antoni Gaudi and has been in the process of being built for more than 100 years. It still is not finished. But, it has some amazing details! From there, we walked to Parc Guell, which is also designed by Gaudi. This Parc is at the top of the town, and you must walk up some very steep hills to get there. Even with 4 or 5 escalators to help, it is still killer! The parc is very beautiful. One of Gaudi's main design elements is colorful mosaics and they are all over the parc. We spent a good amount of our afternoon here. Then, we headed to dinner at Hard Rock again. :) That evening we met a new co-worker that is in the process of moving from Barcelona to Switzerland. She showed us around to the non-tourist spots! We went to a fountain that on Saturday nights has a display that is set to music and lights and changes every 15 minutes. It was well worth it! On Sunday, we took the hop-on/hop-off tourist bus that takes you all around to the sites. We started at the Port Olympic, went to the La Pedrera (an apartment designed/renovated by Gaudi), went around to the other sites but didn't get off the bus, including where the Olympics were held in 1992. We stopped at the beachfront and then walked the rest of the way, seeing people dressed in things they shouldn't be wearing and people not wearing things they really should have. Let's just say...it's different here in Europe. We had a rough night getting back to home. We were delayed and didn't make it back until after midnight. Oh well, it was a fun trip!
