We went today to Verbier (about 1 1/2 hours away) and went skiing. We went with a small group of ADM people and their families. There were two small kids with us (8 and 5), they were pretty good!! They are English; and Gene really wanted to get them to say "Harry Potter" in their British accent! Actually, the girl could almost be Ginny Weasley with her red hair and her name is Georgina...so it could really be a nickname.
Here is a link to the place we went: http://ski.intermaps.ch/verbier/index.asp?lang=
We spent our time at the Lac des Vaux (it was really the only area open, as the snow is not covering everything yet).
We parked in Le Chable, where it rarely snows, and took the enclosed cable car (4 person one) up to Verbier. At Verbier, we switch cable cars (another 4 person one) and went to the mid-station. At the mid-station, we got into a huge cable car that can fit about 10-15 people. Then, we skied. The ski lifts there were some of the nicest...they actually slow down so you can get off the ski lift without a huge fear of falling and then getting run over by the next group of people.
This was true mountain skiing and we are paying the price. We're both beat! I did break my long record and fell today when I stopped to help Gene (this is normally Rob's unassigned duties). FALL TOTALS: Ang - 1, Gene - 15ish (good guess - Gene froze his abacus in the snow banks - so all we have is an educated guess). What I didn't realize was that he fell in a fluffy, high snow bank. That type of snow is not good for skiing and brought me down pretty quickly. Luckily, some guy stopped and helped me up, while Gene was getting up on his own...Gene was nice and told him to help me first (I just found out). We had a good time breaking in our new skis! Unfortunately, we won't be able to go again until we come back in January.
