A few weekends ago, Gene and I met up in Copenhagen for the weekend. It was a 3 day weekend here throughout Europe, so we thought we would take advantage of it. Gene flew from Switzerland and I flew in from Hamburg. We (of course) hit the Hard Rock Cafe, twice actually. It was a really nice one there and very convenient to get to as it was almost next to the train station! Gene arrived early on Friday and did his own exploring. I got in late on Friday night and we just ate dinner and walked for an hour or so. We ventured around the town on our 2nd day there. We actually found a game shop that had Guilotine and were completely surprised!!
One of the highlights we were planning to see was the Little Mermaid statue (Hans Christian Anderson - the author - was from Copenhagen). However, it is currently in China at the World Expo. Instead, they have a LCD screen with a picture of it in the harbor. There was a replica that the sculptor has that was on display at Tivoli Gardens (a theme park/carnival)...not the same feeling though.
We took a nice canal tour throughout the canals and harbor there on Saturday. The weather was great and really enjoyed it, mostly...about half way through, I got completely wet by some crazy teenage boys that were waiting for all the boats to come through and then cannon balling into the canal to splash everyone. I got the brunt of one entire cannon ball. NOT HAPPY as it was warm, but not enough to completely dry out and the wind had picked up in the harbor!
That evening, we went to Tivoli Gardens to see what it was all about...not too exciting if you are not riding the rides, which we didn't. We just walked around. Gene saw an awesome mini firetruck. We were hoping to see the fireworks, but they did not list the time anywhere on when they would be going off....and I was beat (starting to get sick, which I found out on Monday night).
Sunday, we went to see the Rosenburg Castle and the crown jewels. From there, we went to see the changing of the guards at the main castle where the royal family lives. A marathon was going on and we walked through that for a while. Then we took the train to Malmo, Sweden. It was just a 30 minute train ride and easy to say we were in Sweden! :) We just walked around there for some time. There wasn't much open and not a lot to do there.
Monday, we both headed back to the airport to catch our flights back...Gene to Switzerland and me to Hamburg.
