Milan

Sorry, we've been slow about posting lately! We took a trip to Milan during the first weekend of April. Gene, Tammy and I went. We're pretty good travel buddies by now. We left on Saturday morning and took the train. It is about a 3 hour train ride from here and is fairly cheap for those who want to come visit. The ride over is amazing. I slept most of the way there, though. I only woke up around the Lake Como area. I was really glad that I woke up then. That was worth the train ride. We hope to maybe try and go back there just to see the lakes for a little vacation. In Milan, we took a guided bus tour (this was the only way to get tickets to see the Last Supper). We got to see the Duomo Plaza and Cathedral, the Scala (Opera) House, the Castello Sforzesco (where we got to see a motorcycle rally going on), the Galleria (huge shopping area), the Il Cenacolo (Last Supper) and much more. The Duomo Cathedral was awesome. You could go to the top of it, walk around on the roof and see the city! The Cathedral itself is amazing and beautiful. The Last Supper was breathtaking. To know that you were in the same room where Leonardo da Vinci was at and where he painted this beautiful fresco is just inspiring. Saturday evening, we walked along the canal area and just enjoyed ourselves. On Sunday, we got up to go back to the Cathedral to go to the top. As we were walking there, we realized there was a 1/2 marathon and family walk/run going on in town. We were actually at the start line when the race began. Apparently there were some famous racers there from all over the world...but we didn't know them and couldn't understand the announcer! We just spent most of Sunday walking around town and enjoying the Italian atmosphere. :) Right before we headed home, we got POURED on!! Luckily, the rain did not follow us back to Switzerland and we could enjoy the views on train ride home again.

For anyone that comes to visit, Milan is a great day trip from our place. The train tickets are not overly expensive and we can send you the website to buy them in advance. You can take the first and last train of the day and get to see the sites. If you wanted to see the Last Supper, you would have to buy tickets in advance, too (several months in advance). Or, you can take the guided tour and tickets are included.
