Our weekend
Our first family visitor arrived last week, my mom (Ang's mom). She got here on Thursday last week. Gene picked her up from the airport...a little late since he overslept, but that's OK. They hung out at our apartment all day and then I got back from Hamburg late that evening. I did a brave thing and took 2 days off...not good for me to get my work done, but I don't mind. It is nice to have a reason to relax right now instead of working 16 hour days. Friday we just went to Rolle (where ADM is building our headquarters', Bougy-Villars (to visit the AMAZING chocolate factory) and to Lausanne/Ouchy (where my office is now and to see the town). Saturday, we went to Morges (town next to us) to visit the Saturday morning market...it is quite an experience. Then, we walked to the Tulip festival and pottery expo they had going on at the park on the lakefront there in Morges. We took a short break for lunch (and a quick cat nap) at home, then went and to the lakefront here in St. Prex. We walked a lot on both days!! I think Mom's feet are probably going to need a break! Today, we got up and drove into France. We went to go see Mt. Blanc (tallest peak in the Alps) and Chamonoix. It is just about 1 hr 30 min drive or so. The views are amazing, both along the drive and in the town! The towns are in the valley between all the mountain ranges. Chamonoix is very peaceful and the mountains will be future ski slopes for Gene and I. Mom got to experience her first cheese fondue. It was actually a good one. Gene and I had a fondue in December and it was 3 different types...the normal cheese one (VERY STINKY), cheese/mushroom and cheese/tomatoe. This was just one type and it was mixture of 3 cheeses (Gene took a picture of the menu so we know what cheese to buy for making our own). Tomorrow, we are going for another drive. This one will be a little longer, but we are going to go into Italy. Hopefully it goes well and doesn't rain like the weather says it is going to (heavy rain all day with an 80% chance). We will be drowned rats!!!
