Brussels

At the beginning of March, we went to Brussels for a quick weekend with Kelly (a former audit co-worker that moved over here to Switzerland to work in a different department). It was a beautiful weekend there! On Saturday morning, we got up and found a great place to eat breakfast in the Grand Place. We had the most delicious Belgian waffles. Mine was strawberries and chocolate sauce with a cup of hot coco with actual chocolate pieces melted in to it. Gene had strawberries, bananas, chocolate sauce and whipped cream. Yummy!!! After that we walked to see the Mannekin Pis...or in English, the Pissing Boy. It was this little 3 foot or so high statue of a boy peeing. Everyone we talked to and everything we read, said you must see this. We got there and were quite shocked...Really?? We then, proceeded in to some Belgian chocolate shops. Again, yummy. Everywhere we walked, we were surrounded by waffle stands. It was torture...all we wanted to do all day is eat waffles. We walked around to a lot of the different churches in town...very pretty like usual. We walked through several parks, as well. They had their trees all funky...the limbs were being trained to go in a straight line on wires so they were all in a row and very "pretty". After lunch, Kelly and I had chocolate covered strawberries...yum! We walked to their arch, then decided to take the metro and go see the Atiom (not sure if that is the right spelling or real name) thing near the outskirts of town. We got there right as they were closing, so could only take some pictures from the base. We took the metro back and decided to get dinner. Lucky for us, as we were getting out of the metro, we looked left and saw a familiar sign...Chi Chi's! Waffles and Chi Chi's...LOVE THIS PLACE! Filled up on Mexican then decided to walk back to the Grand Place to get some night pictures.

Sunday, we repeated our breakfast, which was once again phenomenal. Then, we walked to the Cathedral in town. Mass was going on, so we could not get very good pictures inside. It was huge...had about 5 different "churches" inside or at least 5 different areas where you can have mass. It was amazing and wish we could have been there on Saturday to get good pictures. We headed back to the central area and ate a good lunch at an Irish pub...then time to head back to the airport. It was a fun weekend, with amazing food!!
