Our Visit to see the Stricker's

We went in mid-July to go visit Michele, Robert, Ariano and Elian Stricker. Michele was in my senior year of high school as a foreign exchange student. She now lives about 5 hours away in Germany, near Stuttgart. We drove to see them on a Friday night. We got in late and stayed up even later chatting and catching up with Michele and Robert. The boys had already gone to bed when we arrived, so we only got to see them the next morning. It was great to meet Elian, their new addition. He was born in March this year and is such a cutie!! :) Ariano has grown so much since we last saw him in 2009, when Angie came to visit us.
On Saturday, we got up and had a great breakfast with the Stricker's. Then, we drove in to the town they live in to see the old town wall and tower, which was very interesting! We got some ice cream, too! Yummy! Although, you should ask Gene about his melon ice cream that tasted like crab. After naps for the boys, we went to Stuttgart and went to the Fire Celebration. It was in a huge park. We walked around watching Ariano play in some of the fun activities...bounce house, bungee jumping...then we rode the train around the park and grabbed some dinner. After that they had a walking area that was called the Magic Path or something very similiar...it was lit up with a lot of different color lights. :) After that, we walked around until it got dark and then watched some awesome fireworks!! It started with a electric light show set to music and then turned to fireworks, also set to music. It was fun to watch Ariano and Elian see the fireworks for the first time. It was a late night again, but tons of fun!
Sunday we slept in a bit. We walked to the park after breakfast and Ariano played on the swings. Elian even got to swing in the baby swing for a while. He seemed really happy!! After some naps for the boys, we drove to their garden and saw Robert's hobby! He loves gardening and growing new and as many things as possible. And, to explain a bit...a lot of Europeans that live in apartments buy some land where they can garden and have some outdoor space. They have a very nice garden! After the visit to the garden, we went to Stuttgart and ate lunch at a nice pizza place. :) Then, it was time for Gene and I to drive home.
It was a great time to catch up with Michele, Robert and their beautiful boys! It was a fun weekend. :)
