We met Erin, Pete, Noah and Sam in Rome last week. They arrived safely and had no problems. The first night was rather boring, but we had grand plans that didn't come to fruition (the word of the Brusky trip). We were planning to eat dinner, go check out the Colosseum at night and possibly see the Fountain Trevi. We went to eat pizza and both boys crashed hard before their dinner even arrived. Noah ate some of his pizza, but didn't even remember it the next day and Sam ate his for breakfast. Unfortunately, we don't have any pictures (only Pete does). The next day, we went to Vatican City. We saw the Vatican Museum, where the Sistine Chapel is. Beautiful!!
From there, we went to St. Peter's Basilica. After lunch, we headed to the Colosseum...Noah was dying to see it! We took the guided tour. The boys loved the headsets, they thought they were walkie-talkies. Noah was just loving learning everything he could about the Colosseum. :) Then, we walked to the Pantheon, Fountain Trevi and Spanish Steps before heading to the Hard Rock Cafe for dinner. Once again, dinner was interesting. Noah was falling asleep eating. We have pictures and video (horrible parents and aunt/uncle). Sam fell asleep, too, but not in his food! They both woke up before we left, so we headed back to the Colosseum to see it at night.
We then had an adventurous night...Sam hit his head in the bathtub at the hotel and cut his head (right by his eye) wide open. So, Pete and Gene took him to the hospital. They glued his head back together for free!!
The next day, we went to Circo Massimo, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill...some of the ancient ruins. Again, Noah was loving it. Then, we put the Brusky's on the train to Pisa!
They were supposed to come back from the ventures to Pisa and Venice late Friday night into Switzerland...however, we got a call about an hour before they were supposed to get in that they were stuck in Milan for the night. They had some misadventures in Venice and their train ride did not make it to fruition that day. They made it in on Saturday about noon. Gene picked them up from the train station and brought them to our apartment. Gene made a quick lunch, then we headed to Tristan for chocolate and of course to see the windy road that Erin had on her list!! :) After that, we headed to Chamonix, France to see Mt. Blanc (what we could see since it was rainy and a little foggy/overcast) and to get the Brusky's into France. We walked around a little and got some photos...then, headed back home for fondue and French onion soup. After the boys went to bed, we got our games on...dominoes! This is where Erin (and I towards the end) got slap happy and the word fruition came out.
On Sunday, it was still rainy and cold, so Gene made French toast, we watched some cartoons and then packed up for some sledding in the Swiss Alps. On the way up to sledding, Noah decided to open up the water bottle with his teeth and out came a tooth. He was so happy to be getting Swiss Francs from the tooth fairy! Our sledding was actually red-neck sledding since we couldn't find any shop open to rent sleds. We improvised...we had a big plastic tub for our snow suits/boots/gloves in the trunk, so we used the lid and the tub to go down the hills. :) We were quite a site...the only ones out there in the rain. But, we had a blast!!!! We had great plans (again that didn't come to fruition) after the sledding. We were hoping to get warmed up and go walk around St-Prex a little bit. But, the boys started playing wii, Erin and Pete napped, while Gene made sushi for dinner. Gene and Pete also built a nice fire in the fireplace to dry out all the wet clothes! The boys went to bed early, then we played more games...hand and foot this time.
The next morning, Gene made omelets and then we packed up the cars and headed to Montreux to see the Chateau de Chillon. We walked through and then headed back to Lausanne for a quick lunch and put the Brusky's back on the train...this time to Florence. We were sad to see them go..........but, we had a great time with them and hope they had a blast seeing Europe! P.S...our apartment is very, very quiet!!
