Owen's First Birthday Party

Today was a wonderful day in a strange way.

Our family and friends went with us to the cemetery this afternoon to see the stone.  Several had not seen it yet, so it was good.  We found out that another Moeller buried just a short bit away from Owen is actually a relative of Gene's family.  I always wondered but never asked his family.  It was a nice time out there.  Owen got several gifts left for him, which were quite special!  :)

We then headed back to the house for lasagna, corn on the cob, tomato/mozzarella, homemade bread and all was quite yummy.  Gene made and decorated Owen a cake and cupcakes.  :)  We had chocolate cake, funfetti and red velvet cupcakes (with homemade white chocolate cream cheese icing...yummy).  We have lots of leftovers!

Then, we sent Owen his birthday balloons.  Gene's idea was to send him balloons at night and they had glow in the dark butterfly stickers (on the solid color ones) and glow in the dark duct tape (on the butterfly balloons outlining only because it weighed them down too much).  The butterfly duct tape ones didn't fly so well...they may have ended up in the neighbors' yards or trees.  Hoping not, but it was dark so who knows!

We got to spend time with our families (at least all the local ones) and some good friends.  We got to honor Owen.  Some tears were shed, but they were good tears.  It was a good night.  :)

As we were going back inside after the last family left, we saw a lone butterfly balloon that was left in the garage.  It was one of several that we had gotten about 2 weeks ago to experiment with but really didn't get time to experiment with the glow in the dark tape.  It was the only one left still with some helium in it (or at least still on the ceiling...the others were on the floor).  Gene grabbed it, we went outside and agreed that since this lone balloon was still sticking it out, we would send it off together to him for his birthday.  This actually happened at almost the same time he was born.  This balloon floated off as I was crying my eyes out, missing him terribly.  It almost got caught in the huge power lines, but it made it.  We watched it until we could see it no more.  It was perfect, as he was.

I hope you enjoyed watching in on your birthday party!  There was lots of love for you here today!!!
